Spain Faces Extreme Temperature Swings with Cold Mornings and Hot Afternoons

by admin477351

Spain is preparing for a significant shift in weather conditions this weekend, with temperatures in some inland cities expected to plummet to as low as 3°C before warmer weather returns. While central and northern regions brace for chilly mornings, southern parts of the country are predicted to experience much milder afternoon temperatures, exceeding 30°C in some areas.

In the city of Ávila, temperatures are forecasted to drop to 3°C, and Segovia may see lows around 4°C. Other cities such as Burgos, León, Salamanca, and Huesca could experience temperatures hovering around 5°C. These cold mornings contrast sharply with the warmer climate anticipated in southern cities like Seville and Huelva, where temperatures could reach 31°C. Granada, Málaga, and Almería are expected to see highs around 27°C, while Cádiz and Córdoba might reach approximately 28°C.

Alongside these temperature fluctuations, weather warnings have been issued for heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and rough seas, particularly affecting the Mediterranean coast and southern Spain. Coastal areas like Girona are under orange warnings for strong winds and high waves, with some reaching up to four meters. Menorca could face even larger waves of up to five meters, driven by strong northerly winds. Alerts are also in place for parts of Mallorca, Ceuta, and Lanzarote due to adverse weather conditions.

These challenging weather conditions may impact travel and outdoor activities, with potential disruptions to ferry services and beach visits. Travelers and residents are advised to monitor local weather forecasts and heed any warnings before planning their activities.

Despite the initial cold snap, temperatures are expected to rise over the weekend as warmer air spreads across much of Spain starting October 12. Cities such as Badajoz, Córdoba, Huelva, Ourense, and Seville may again experience temperatures exceeding 30°C, while Madrid is anticipated to reach around 25°C. This warmer weather could lead to temperatures above the seasonal average in many areas, bringing a late-summer feel to the autumn season in parts of the country.
