EU Approves €170 Million Aid for Bulgarian Farmers Facing Cost Increases

by admin477351

The European Commission has sanctioned a €170 million state aid package for Bulgarian farmers grappling with increased fuel and fertiliser expenses attributed to the ongoing Middle East crisis. This financial support aims to alleviate the burden of rising input costs through direct grants to agricultural producers.

Under the terms of the aid package, individual companies may receive up to €50,000, and the funds must be disbursed by December 31, 2026. This initiative is part of a broader effort to support the agricultural sector in Bulgaria, which has been significantly affected by external economic pressures.

This latest aid package follows a similar state aid scheme approved in 2024, where approximately €169 million was allocated to assist Bulgarian farmers impacted by escalating energy costs and the economic repercussions of the war in Ukraine. These measures underscore the EU’s ongoing commitment to stabilizing the agricultural industry in member states facing economic challenges.

As Bulgarian farmers continue to face financial strain, the approved funds are expected to provide much-needed relief, ensuring the sustainability of agricultural operations in the region. The European Commission’s decision highlights the importance of supporting member states in navigating the complex economic landscape shaped by global crises.
