Vestea garnered 189 votes, falling short of the 233 needed for approval, despite his efforts to stabilize the country’s political landscape.
The responsibility now falls to President Nicușor Dan, who must select another prime minister-designate. This nominee will then have a 10-day window to assemble a cabinet and seek Parliament’s backing. According to Romanian law, if Parliament continues to reject two successive nominees within a 60-day timeframe, it could lead to Parliament’s dissolution and the calling of early elections.
The inability to form a majority government highlights the deep political divisions within the country. Analysts are increasingly suggesting that a minority administration may be the most feasible solution to break the deadlock.
