She emphasized the urgency for stronger measures against climate misinformation and delays in implementing clean energy policies, stressing that the extreme temperatures highlight the repercussions of not addressing the root causes of climate change.
Ribera criticized misleading narratives opposing climate policies and insisted that decisions should be informed by scientific data and the public’s well-being. As record-breaking heat engulfs parts of Europe, temperatures have soared past 40°C in countries including Germany, Poland, and Hungary. This sweltering heat has disrupted daily routines, leading to school closures, impacting tourism, heightening the risk of wildfires, and straining energy resources.
Defending the European Green Deal, Ribera pointed out that many citizens favor initiatives that promote cleaner air, safer water, renewable energy sources, and healthier environments.
