Petrol prices in Spain have surged for the 11th consecutive week, with more than 150 service stations in Aragón now charging over €2 per litre. The average national price of regular petrol reached €1.866 per litre as of September 17, representing a 2.88% increase in just one week. Diesel prices have also risen, now standing at €1.834 per litre following a brief period of decline.
The escalation in fuel costs is largely driven by rising global oil prices, exacerbated by disruptions in energy supplies from the Middle East. Spain’s reliance on imported crude oil has made it particularly susceptible to these international market fluctuations.
Motorists in Spain may face further financial strain with the impending expiration of the government’s temporary fuel discount on September 30. This measure currently offers a relief of 5 cents per litre on petrol and 20 cents on diesel. Industry estimates warn that the cessation of this discount could propel average diesel prices beyond €2 per litre, with petrol prices nearing that threshold.
