Saudi Arabia and Serbia are forging stronger economic and diplomatic ties, with an emphasis on collaboration in key sectors such as energy, technology, agriculture, and trade. Recent discussions between the two nations have centered on collaborative energy projects, advancements in information and communications technology, and agricultural partnerships. These discussions aim to bolster the presence of Serbian companies within the Saudi market and enhance Saudi investments in Serbia.
In a recent meeting held in Belgrade, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric took a significant step by signing an agreement to waive visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This agreement is anticipated to streamline official exchanges between the two countries, facilitating greater diplomatic engagement.
Economic exchanges have seen significant growth, with bilateral trade reaching $121 million in 2025, marking almost a ninefold increase since 2012. The momentum continued into the first half of 2026, where trade figures rose to $130.4 million, reflecting a 152% surge compared to the same period in the previous year.
Future opportunities for investment and business cooperation are expected to be highlighted at the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh. Saudi Arabia has confirmed its participation in EXPO 2027, where it intends to showcase its economic progress, innovation, cultural richness, and investment prospects. Meanwhile, Serbia is planning to have a significant presence at the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, with more than 50 companies participating.
Both nations are also seeking to expand their collaboration in the fields of science and technology, aiming to leverage each other’s strengths and expertise to foster innovation and development. These efforts underscore a shared commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and exploring new avenues for mutual growth.
